On the agenda for Day 6 was the last of the 4 company
visits, the trip to SGL. The SGL visit was different from the others as it did
not include a factory tour. It consisted of 2 approximately one hour long presentations, a
little tour around an area that included some of the products they contribute
to, then lunch. It was interesting to learn about the things that SGL does
since it was probably the company that I knew least about coming in to the
program. We were also able to learn all about carbon fiber and its uses, which
I had no prior knowledge of. This was cool because we learned about what the
future might be like with the product. The best part was seeing the products made with carbon fiber like the car door, and how light it was. After arriving back in Augsburg at the hotel
we had some down time, which most of us used to work on our projects or blogs.
Then, many of us enjoyed a trip to likely the coolest place we have eaten so
far, the biergarten, for dinner. The food was great, but I think it was the
atmosphere that made the place special. It was basically a large picnic area in
the middle of the woods and it awesome. This was definitely one of the best
days so far.
